Valley of the Incas ~ Sacred Valley, Peru

High in the Andes mountains, visit the ancient ruins at the Sacred Valley located near the Incan capital of Cusco. Although historians believe that humans lived in the area since 6,000 B.C., it is better known for being very important farmland for the Incan Empire.  Its rich soil was a perfect place to plant the crops that nourished the ancient people and was said to produce Peru’s best corn.  The surrounding area boasts colorful indigenous markets, historic ruins and spectacular sites of numerous peaks, ranges and valleys of the Peruvian Andes.  After exploring this ancient wonder, relax at a spa and enjoy an incredible Peruvian gourmet meal.

City of Gold ~ Cusco, Peru

As you wander the cobblestone streets of Cusco, it feels as though you’ve stepped back in time.  Intricate Incan walls topped with colonial Spanish architecture tells the story of the turbulent conquest of South America and depicts the living history that still remains today. Impressive cathedrals, boutique art galleries, and exquisite Peruvian food line the streets and give way to many easy and interesting ways to pass the time. Plan to stay at least one full day here…this historical town with continue to dazzle.

The "other" Inca Trail ~ Salcantay Trek to Machu Picchu

This 7-day lodge to lodge trekking experience will take you on a historic section of the Inca trail that travels through 15 different eco-systems.  While you traverse a mountain pass over 15,000 feet, you will explore villages where locals still maintain age-old traditions and re-discover the mystical beauty of Machu Picchu, the crown jewel of the Inca Empire. Each day’s trek ends with a hot shower in a cozy lodge, complemented by a massage or a dip in an outdoor jacuzzi, followed by a gourmet meal with select wines, all provided with highly personalized service by local staff.

The Iconic Machu Picchu ~ Aguas Calientes, Peru

An UNESCO World Heritage Site and considered one of the seven wonders of the world, Machu Picchu is the ultimate bucket list destination. This ancient city gives us a glimpse into the intricate story of one of the world’s greatest empires, the infamous Incas.  Machu Picchu is a mystery because the Incans abandoned the city intact during the Spanish conquest.  The Spanish never found the community and it wasn’t until 1911 that is was discovered by outsiders.  Some say the inhabitants of this ancient village left, fleeing the threat of European disease, but the truth of their departure is as mythical as the people themselves.  Take a walk through time and listen to the whispering winds of the majestic Andes as they blow through this breathtaking ancient city and maybe the secret will be revealed.
